ICONIC HOUSES. Icons of Czech Avantgarde: Authenticity & Style Diversity
The exhibition offers a unique perspective on the most significant Czech house-museums of architectural modernism. It explores the legacy of iconic buildings that are part of the prestigious international network Iconic Houses. This show was created on the occasion of the 7th International ICONIC HOUSES Conference 2023, held in Prague and subsequently in Brno, Vienna, and Ljubljana.
Visitors will encounter key structures of Czech modernist architecture from 1906 to 1958. The selection includes buildings not only from major urban and industrial centers such as Prague, Brno, and Pilsen, but also from smaller towns—demonstrating the diversity and profound impact of modern architecture within the Czech context.
Founded in 2012 by Dutch architectural historian Natascha Drabbe, the Iconic Houses project connects architecturally significant 20th-century landmarks across the globe. Among its founding members is the famous Tugendhat Villa in Brno.
The exhibition provides a fascinating insight into authentic architectural styles and the stylistic diversity of avant-garde buildings that shaped the modern Czech environment.
