The Gallery of West Bohemia in Pilsen is proud to be part of the ‘Director’s Choice’ series. The book presenting 37 artworks from the collections of the gallery was introduced in September 2019 in the Masne kramy exhibition hall.
Oskar Semler’s family apartment is a unique architectural monument of 20th century interior design in the Czech Republic. Oskar Semler was co-owner of a wire ware company specializing in manufacturing “Sem” gramophone needles. Although it is most probable that the architect Adolf Loos participated only by devising the overall concept of the space, which was further developed and detailed by his apprentice Heinrich Kulka, this interior design represents not only Loos’s last work, but the climax of his activity in Pilsen.
The company Plzeň 2015, o.p.s is a significant and proud partner of several large exhibition projects of The Gallery of West Bohemia in Pilsen. These projects are an integral part of the Capital of Culture programme and will offer visitors exceptional experiences.
Gottfried Lindauer is known in the Czech lands only to a narrow group of experts on the 19th century painting, and possibly ethnologists, thanks to a collection of objects from New Zealand in the Náprstek Museum in Prague which includes his portraits of a Maori chieftain and a Maori woman and a number of objects related to the Maori way of life donated by Gottfried Lindauer to the museum, as well as part of his correspondence.
